fabulous vic falls

we've spent the last few days at a wonderful self catering lodge just outside of Vic Falls with the family we are living with in Bulawayo & their aunt & uncle from america. What a fabulous few days we had....

The self catering lodge was surrounded by trees, warthogs, monkeys&guinea foul. The front of the lodge was made of canvas and zipped up like a tent-when we left we had to make sure this was closed properly, windows shut&the kitchen locked so the crazy monkeys wouldn't get in. This was especially important as we would have been charged for any damages caused by the pests!

Our first evening was spent at the Boma, which means eating place in Indabelle. This was such fun, dressing in typical african clothing, having our face painted, being entertained by traditional songs&dancing&then the best percussion class ever.

There was a buffet style meal, which beat anything we have ever tasted before.......we embraced the evening&tried crocodile tail, kudu, warthog, ostrich, buffalo.....our favourite was the warthog steak :)

Monday was spent at Vic Falls-what a spectacular part of God's creation!! We were told that the water levels were very low due to the rains being few, but it was all still so incredible. We loved being sprayed from afar by the falls as well as the beautiful walk.

Evening time flew by on the sunset cruise, also known as the booze cruise due to the unlimited drinks served as part of the cost. We were able to see a herd of elephants on the Zambia Island, a crocodile, lots of birds&hippos. Obviously andy kept to his moto of getting as much for his money as possible so drank lots of coke of course, the whisky wasn't too highly rated though.

We could have spent longer here, as it is such a beautiful place. Tourism seems to be slowly increasing which is good, as it's suffered badly in the past few years. Shops are slowly beginning to sell products again&the hotels are starting to fill up. we enjoyed visiting one of the best hotels in Vic Falls and looked at the presidential suite where the president has stayed a few times.

overall we had an incredible few days and have some great memories.
