Hi from Liwonde

Hello, we've now been in Malawi for three weeks, wowzers! We've loved everyday of being here.
We're getting used to African slow internet connections, as this is our second attempt of writing another blog post.

If you see a car on the road & think there is now way that should be allowed to drive on the road, well believe us - it will be allowed & with smoke puffing out of it, lights hanging off, smashed up windscreens - this is Africa. If you see a big group of people wanting to board an already jam packed mini bus or pick up truck - a way will always be made to squeeze as many people, belongings, animals on as possible! Andy is learning to fold his extra long legs into tiny spaces!

Last Wednesday we made our way from Lilongwe to Monkey Bay. It was quite an adventure as the bus was due to depart at 8am, however didn't leave till 11am. When we got half way through the journey, we heard a crack from the bus and then saw lots of smoke, everyone understandingly started stampeeding off at full speed as they thought it had caught fire. This was our first experience of blind panic! praise the lord, every single person managed to get off the bus safely & it turned out the bus hadn't caught fire, the engine had simply broken. We waited in the middle of nowhere for a few hours, managed to make our by then limited supply of water & local nuts somehow last&then hitch hiked the remainder of the way to our next destination - yes believe it, we are turning into wild cats needing to hitch hike - this seemed the safest option, rather than being stranded in the middle of nowhere as dark was falling. we praise God for his protection&provision!!

We've had a great past week, staying with missionaries from Chile. We've been living with them in their beautiful house overlooking lake Malawi-stunning which happens to belong to the President! The week has been filled with playing with the local children, vollyball, shopping at the market, visiting a very rural Vineyard church, eating delicious food, and having very deep discussions.

We feel so blessed to be meeting such wonderful people & to be able to see different parts of such a beautiful part of God's world.

We love you lotsx

  1. :) Lots of drama I'll be looking out for your film screening at showcase cinema! Reminds me of stories my Grandma used to tell me about Jamaica...

Some minor drama back home as well. Bramcote made the national news! a pipe burst and 10,000 homes had no water for a few hours!
